Terms of Use

Guidelines for using the SAFE Action platform.

Effective date: March 17, 2026

1. About SAFE Action

SAFE Action (Science and Freedom for Everyone Action Fund) is a nonpartisan civic engagement platform that helps citizens contact their elected representatives about science-related legislation. Our 501(c)(4) application is currently pending with the IRS.

By accessing or using the SAFE Action website ("the Site"), you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.

2. Use of the Platform

SAFE Action provides tools to:

  • Look up elected representatives by address
  • Generate and send emails or make phone calls to representatives
  • Track science-related legislation across the United States
  • View candidate positions on science and public health policy
  • Access media resources and data about legislative activity

You may use the Site for lawful civic engagement purposes. You agree not to use the Site to harass, threaten, or send abusive communications to any individual, including elected officials and their staff.

3. No Account Required

The Site does not require you to create an account. Most features work directly in your browser without transmitting personal information to our servers. See our Privacy Policy for details.

4. Communications with Representatives

When you use our email or calling tools, you are the sender of those communications, not SAFE Action. We provide templates and tools to facilitate civic engagement, but the content you send and the decision to send it are your own responsibility.

You should always be respectful and truthful in your communications with elected officials. Misrepresenting your identity, sending spam, or making threats through our platform is strictly prohibited and may violate federal and state laws.

5. Candidate Quiz Submissions

Political candidates who submit the Candidate Quiz grant SAFE Action the right to publish their responses on the Pledge Directory. Submissions are reviewed before publication. SAFE Action reserves the right to reject submissions that are incomplete, misleading, or do not meet our editorial standards. Published responses may be updated or removed at our discretion.

6. Accuracy of Information

We strive to provide accurate and up-to-date information about legislation, representatives, and candidate positions. However, we make no guarantees about the completeness or accuracy of this information. Legislative data is sourced from public databases and may have delays.

SAFE Action does not provide legal, medical, or professional advice. Information about legislation and policy is for civic engagement purposes only.

7. Nonpartisan Platform

SAFE Action is a nonpartisan organization. We do not endorse or oppose any political candidate or party. Our tools are designed to promote evidence-based policymaking regardless of political affiliation. The inclusion of any candidate, bill, or representative on our platform does not constitute an endorsement.

8. Open Source

The SAFE Action website is open source software licensed under the GNU General Public License v3.0 (GPLv3). You may view, fork, and contribute to the code at our GitHub repository. Use of the source code is subject to the terms of the GPLv3 license.

9. Prohibited Conduct

You agree not to:

  • Use automated scripts or bots to send mass communications through the platform
  • Attempt to manipulate aggregate action counts or statistics
  • Impersonate another person or misrepresent your affiliation
  • Use the Site for any unlawful purpose
  • Interfere with or disrupt the Site's functionality
  • Scrape or harvest data from the Site for commercial purposes

10. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Site is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We do not warrant that the Site will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components. Your use of the Site is at your own risk.

11. Limitation of Liability
